Our History

Ravensnest sits in a valley of the Anghidi Fawr stream. This rises as springs high on the Llanishen ridge, giving outstandingly clean water.

The stream was dammed as early as the 12th century by the Cistercian monks who founded Tintern Abbey. The water was used to power grain mills and this use of the flow continued up to the 19th Century by which time iron production and processing were the dominant industries.

The current owners acquired Ravensnest fly fishery in 2025 and immediately set about restoring the ponds, dredging the silt that had built up over the year, reinstating the banks and laying out the campsite.
